What makes a photo acceptable
- Plain, light background — off-white, cream, or light gray, no objects behind you
- Face the camera directly, eyes open, neutral expression, mouth closed
- Even lighting — no shadows on the face or background, no flash glare
- No glasses for US passports, and nothing covering the face
- Recent photo — taken within the last six months
Printing tips
Print the sheet at exactly 4×6 in (10×15 cm) on photo paper — at home, or at any photo kiosk (choose "4×6, no border, actual size"). Cut along the light gray lines. If the portal only takes a digital upload and caps the file size, run the single photo through the target-size compressor — passport portals often stop at 240 KB or less. Need to trim the photo first? Crop image handles the raw cut; sizing for email and portals is covered in our guide with the measured numbers.
How do I make a passport photo at home?
Take a photo with a plain, light background, open this tool, pick your country's size, and drag or zoom so the eyes sit between the dashed guides. Download the single photo, or the 4×6 in sheet with six copies, and print it at a kiosk.
What size is a US passport photo?
2×2 inches (51×51 mm). The head should be 1 to 1⅜ inches tall, with the eyes 1⅛ to 1⅜ inches from the bottom. This tool outputs 600×600 px at 300 DPI, print-ready.
Will the photo be accepted?
The tool gets the size and head position right, but acceptance also depends on the photo itself: plain background, even lighting, neutral expression, no shadows. Always check your issuing authority's current rules before submitting.
How do I print the 4×6 sheet?
Download the sheet and print it at exactly 4×6 inches (10×15 cm) on photo paper — at home, or at any photo kiosk. Cut along the light gray lines.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything — sizing, positioning, and the print sheet — happens in your browser tab. The photo never leaves your device.
