Under half a megabyte.
Quality unharmed.
Compress a JPG, PNG, or WebP toward a 500KB cap for websites, courses, and email — visually near-original, and fully local.
How do I compress an image to 500KB? Drop your image into the tool, choose the 500 KB target, and download. The compressor runs entirely in your browser and the original stays on your device.

Target sizes are approximate ceilings. Very detailed images may need a smaller resolution to fit while staying readable.
How to compress an image to 500 KB
- Add your image — phone photos and screenshots are the usual customers here.
- Choose the 500 KB target — at this size most files get under with quality tuning only.
- Download — visually indistinguishable at typical screen sizes.
Where 500KB caps appear
- CMS and website upload limits
- Course platforms and LMS submissions
- Email attachments when sending many images
Good to know
Half a megabyte is roomy: modern phone photos compress to it with essentially no visible loss at screen sizes. If you are publishing to the web, switch the output to WebP and you can often go far below the cap with identical quality — see the PNG to WebP converter. Related: 200 KB and 1 MB targets.
Why did the dimensions change?
When quality alone cannot reach the target, the compressor gently reduces the pixel dimensions so the file becomes small enough to send or upload.
Will the original be overwritten?
No. The result is a new downloaded file. Your original remains unchanged on your device.
