# Black Friday 2026: The Dates, and the Files Behind the Campaign

> Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30. Here are the dates that matter, and the file-size work behind the campaign graphics that get emailed and uploaded.

Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. The dates are the easy part. The part that bites in week one is the size of the graphics you are about to email, upload and attach to a thousand listings.

## Quick answer

**Short answer:** Thanksgiving falls on **Thursday, November 26, 2026**, so Black Friday is **Friday, November 27**, Small Business Saturday is **November 28** and Cyber Monday is **Monday, November 30**. For the file side: if a campaign image is over a couple of megabytes, run it through the [image compressor](https://toolpantry.app/image-compressor) before it goes into an email, and read the [Gmail attachment limit guide](https://toolpantry.app/blog/gmail-attachment-limit-25mb) for what actually gets rejected.

## The 2026 dates

| Day | Date | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving | Thursday, November 26, 2026 | Federal holiday; the anchor for everything else |
| Black Friday | Friday, November 27, 2026 | Retail tradition, not a holiday |
| Small Business Saturday | Saturday, November 28, 2026 | Shopping day aimed at independent shops |
| Cyber Monday | Monday, November 30, 2026 | Online equivalent of Black Friday |

Why these dates and not others: **Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November**, so it lands somewhere between the 22nd and the 28th every year. Black Friday is the day after it, Cyber Monday is the Monday after that. That is the whole rule, and it is why the dates drift by up to a week each year — and why a date you bookmarked last November is wrong this year.

Two practical notes for 2026: **Black Friday falls on the final Friday of November**, and **Cyber Monday stays in November**. In 2030, by contrast, Thanksgiving falls on November 28, which pushes Cyber Monday into December 2.

## Is Black Friday a holiday? It is not

This trips people up every year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are retail inventions, not public holidays. Federal offices, post offices and banks are open on both days. Many state governments and private employers give the Friday after Thanksgiving off, so whether you work depends on your employer, not on the calendar.

The practical consequence: if you are shipping a customer support inbox or a phone line over the holiday week, staffing it is your call, and so is whether the post office will send your package. It will — but carriers and retailers each set their own season cutoffs well before the dates above.

## The part that actually bites: file sizes

Every Black Friday campaign has the same bottleneck, and it is rarely the discounts. It is the assets.

- **Banner graphics for email.** A 1200 × 630 promotional image is fine on a social post and far too heavy as an attachment. A single high-resolution product photo can be 4 MB on its own, and attaching three of them to a customer email is how you end up in the spam folder or with a rejected message.
- **Product images for marketplace listings.** Every marketplace has its own dimension and file-size rules, and they are enforced on upload rather than at checkout. Re-uploading a rejected image is a slow loop.
- **Price lists and lookbooks.** A 40-page seasonal catalogue exported from a design tool routinely lands in the megabytes, and every email provider has its own ceiling on top of that.

The fix is boring and mechanical: **compress the assets once, before they go anywhere**. Our [image compressor](https://toolpantry.app/image-compressor) runs in the browser, so a supplier's product photo never gets uploaded to anyone else's server to be shrunk.

## Measured numbers, from our own tests

We compressed a 1600 × 1200 chart export — 4,642,935 bytes — to a set of size targets on October 15, 2026:

| Target | Result | Original dimensions | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100,000 bytes | 98,489 bytes | Kept | Passes a 100 KB form field |
| 200,000 bytes | 198,537 bytes | Kept | — |
| 500,000 bytes | 497,363 bytes | Kept | — |
| 1,000,000 bytes | 976,638 bytes | Kept | Still under 1 MB without resizing |
| 50,000 bytes | 49,465 bytes | **Reduced** | Quality alone could not reach 50 KB |
| 20,000 bytes | 18,800 bytes | **Reduced** | Same |

Two things worth reading off that table. First, **a 1 MB target does not need resizing** — the image came in 4.6 MB and still fit without touching its dimensions, which is why the file kept full resolution. Second, **below roughly 50 KB the dimensions have to give**, because no amount of quality reduction gets a detailed chart that small. That is not a flaw in the compressor, it is what the format allows.

If a form demands both a small file *and* exact pixels, the two requirements can genuinely conflict. We measured that case too: asking for 1600 × 1200 under a 20,000-byte limit produced a 51,000-byte file that **failed** the limit while keeping the required dimensions. The tool says so rather than quietly handing you a file that gets rejected. Our guide to [reducing image size for email and upload portals](https://toolpantry.app/blog/reduce-image-size-for-email-discord-passport) covers which limit each service actually enforces.

## A week-one checklist

1. **Put the four dates in every channel** — email, site banner, social. They are wrong if you copy last year's.
2. **Compress the hero assets once**, at the size the channel actually needs. 512 px is plenty for a social card; 1200 × 630 is plenty for a link preview; the full-resolution original stays on your disk.
3. **Attach nothing heavy to email.** Link to a hosted page, or compress the attachment first — our [guide to the Gmail attachment limit](https://toolpantry.app/blog/gmail-attachment-limit-25mb) has the measured numbers, including why 25 MB is not what you get in practice.
4. **Pre-compress the product images** before you upload them to a marketplace, so a size rejection never costs you a week.
5. **Check the countdown.** The [time duration calculator](https://toolpantry.app/time-duration-calculator) gives you the exact number of days between today and any of these dates, which is the number to put in countdown blocks.

## What this guide is not

- **It is not a deal list.** We do not track prices, coupons or retailers, and every retailer's own promotion dates differ — many start Black Friday pricing in early or mid-November, well before the day itself.
- **It is not a shipping-deadline list.** Carrier cutoffs are set per retailer, per service and per year. Check the carrier's own page for the year in question; a 2025 deadline is worse than no deadline.
- **It is not a forecast.** These are calendar dates, which are fixed once the fourth Thursday is known.

## Notes

By the Tool Pantry team, October 2026. The dates below were checked against multiple published 2026 calendars on October 21, 2026. The file-size numbers come from our own compression tests, not from a vendor's marketing page.

## FAQ

**Is Black Friday a federal holiday in the US?**

No. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are retail traditions, not public holidays. Federal offices, post offices and banks stay open on Friday November 27 and Monday November 30, 2026. Many state governments and private employers give the Friday after Thanksgiving off, so whether you work depends on your employer.

**When is Cyber Monday 2026?**

Monday, November 30, 2026 — four days after Thanksgiving, which falls on Thursday, November 26. Both dates move every year because Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November.

**Why do the Black Friday dates move every year?**

Thanksgiving is observed on the fourth Thursday of November, and that Thursday falls on a different date each year. Black Friday is the day after it and Cyber Monday is the Monday after that, so both slide across late November and sometimes into early December.
