Remove the background.
Right in your browser.
An AI model that runs on your own device cuts out people, products, and objects — download a transparent PNG or drop in any background color. Your photos never get uploaded.
How do I remove a background? Choose a photo, press Remove background, and wait a few seconds (the first run downloads the ~15 MB model once). Then download a transparent PNG or a JPG with the background color of your choice.
AI background remover
Powered by U²-Net, a compact open-source segmentation model (about 15 MB, downloaded once and cached — the tool then works offline). Great for portraits, product shots, pets, and objects; fine hair, fur, and glass edges are approximate. Everything runs on your device — no upload, no account, no watermark.
How to remove a background from a photo
- Choose the photo — a clear subject against a distinct background works best.
- Press Remove background — the model segments the main subject and erases everything else (a few seconds; first run downloads the model).
- Download your cutout — transparent PNG for design work, or pick a color and download a JPG for forms, marketplaces, and profiles.
What people use it for
- Profile pictures — clean cutouts on any color.
- Marketplace listings — product shots on white, the way platforms prefer them.
- Presentations and thumbnails — subjects that pop off the slide.
- Personal photos — unlike cloud services, nothing is uploaded, so private pictures stay private.
Good to know
The checkerboard behind the preview shows transparency. If an edge keeps a halo of the old background, the background was close in color to the subject — try the transparent PNG in a design tool and erase the halo by hand. For photos where the subject is tiny in frame, crop closer first with the image cropper. Related: upscale the cutout and compress it for uploads.
How good is the cutout quality?
For people, products, pets, and objects on a reasonably distinct background, the result is clean and immediately usable. Very fine edges — flyaway hair, fur, transparent glass, motion blur — are approximate rather than perfect. The model is a compact one that runs on your device; desktop-quality AI services with big server models still win on the hardest edges.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The AI model (about 15 MB) is downloaded to your browser once and runs entirely on your device. Your photos never leave your computer or phone — which is why this works even for private pictures.
Why does the first run take longer?
The first use downloads the AI runtime and model (~15 MB total, cached afterward), then processes the image. Later runs start immediately, and the whole tool keeps working offline once loaded.
