## About

Every service does the same first cut. The differences show up on the edges — hair, glass, motion blur — and in what happens after: batch queues, API access, and whether the file leaves your machine.

## Tools

- **[remove.bg](https://www.remove.bg/)** (Hosted, API) — The default cutout service. Clean edges on people and products, and an API for anything repeated.
- **[Photoroom](https://www.photoroom.com/)** (Hosted, Product photos) — Cutout plus replacement backgrounds, aimed at product listings rather than one-off images.
- **[Bria](https://bria.ai/)** (Hosted, Licensed data) — Removal and generative fill built on licensed training data — the argument that matters to legal teams.
- **[Clipdrop](https://clipdrop.co/)** (Hosted, Utilities) — Cutout beside cleanup and uncrop, so a product photo can be finished in one place.
- **[Photopea](https://www.photopea.com/)** (Free, Manual) — A full image editor in the browser. Use it when the automatic cut eats the hair and you need to mask by hand.
- **[Background remover](https://toolpantry.app/background-remover)** (Tool Pantry, Local) — Removes the background in the browser with nothing uploaded. Best for a single image you would rather not send anywhere.

## FAQ

**Why are the edges ragged?**

Hair, fur and glass are where automatic cutouts fail. Either lower the subject against a contrasting backdrop, or mask by hand in an editor.

**Is the output transparent?**

It should be a PNG with an alpha channel. If you save it as JPG the transparency becomes white.

**What about batch work?**

Automatic services with an API are the only sane route past a few dozen images. Doing them one at a time in a browser does not scale.
